The polymerized tetrafluoroethylene called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a synthetic chemical made up of carbon and fluorine atoms that is resistant to corrosion, heat, and has low surface friction. First discovered in 1938 by Dr. Roy Plunkett, a research chemist at DuPont in the United States.
